sdGH specializes in assisting historical landmark owners investigate paranormal activity at their locations. The team’s primary goal is to collect spirit evidence of past occupants, then identify them through historical, genealogical and archaeological research. Below is a sampling of evidence captured during past investigations. Due to contractual obligations to its literary publisher, sdGH is not currently permitted to post much of its best imagery. Details of sdGH’s book of apparitions, Unlocking the Spirits of History®, will come soon.

Photo taken by Maritza during a recent Whaley House Museum Paranormal Investigation Tour co-hosted by sdGH,team founder, Maritza and several guest investigators were attempting communication with Francis Whaley using experimental electronic equipment. The above photo was taken when it was felt Francis was in the room. Is this the shadow of his spirit?
Bird Cage Theatre, Tombstone, Arizona: Shot in one of two downstairs brothel rooms across from the poker room and bar, this photo possibly shows a distinct and chilling shadowed figure in the mirror. There is no access to the locked interior of this room. One has to photograph through a small viewing port in the door. Other similar photos show no figure. photographer, Christina
Fox Theater, Fullerton, California: Photo taken by Maritza. While using divining rods, Maritza sensed there was a man named Sam who had worked there. He was sensed at the theater before. She asked if he would let her take his picture. Beyond the obvious dust particles, look what unusual shapes were captured. Was it Sam?
Undisclosed location, photo taken by Maritza, Phoenix, Arizona: A moving green orb anomaly passes by the kitchen in this very active private residence that experienced varied phenomenon.
Whaley House Museum, San Diego, California: Photo taken by Dawn. Was Mr. Whaley caught in the upstairs theatre? According to team sensitives, it was thought he was aggravated the night of this investigation and was actively moving from room to room.
Mr. Whaley going down the stairs was not happy
A funny thing happened while staying at the Tombstone Bordello Bed and Breakfast. During its last investigation of the Bird Cage Theatre in Tombstone, the team had the good fortune of staying at what was once housed ‘Big Nose Kate’s’ brothel. It is haunted today. While clicking away in the upstairs hallway, Jodi snaps off a series of photos into a wall mirror that reflected back to the hallway’s end.
What was discovered later is very strange.
Photo 1 shows an obstacle or figure just right of Jodi’s hand, situated behind the hall’s secretary desk. Though mostly unseen, It has enough mass to block the window’s light.
Photo 2 is the next image shot in sequence (three seconds later) and shows the anomaly gone. The window’s light is not obstructed in any way, a full reflection can be seen on the desk’s surface, and the carpet leading from the window is fully highlighted.
Inset photo is an enlargement of the area in question.
No one but Jodi was present in the area. This may not be the spookiest image uncovered, but certainly one of the most puzzling.
Undisclosed location, Phoenix, Arizona: A blue anomaly was discovered in a photo from this extremely active home. Was it moving? Was it a partial source or the result of the home’s activity? The investigation will not be soon forgotten by the team.
Villa Montezuma Museum, San Diego, California: Photo taken by Maritza. Author, historian and archaeologist, Rob Wlodarski, utilizes divining rods in an effort to communicate with Villa spirit occupant, Ms. Yeager. Note interesting lighting around rods as taken at different angles, eliminating traditional lens flare.
Bird Cage Theatre, Tombstone, Arizona: One of several anomalous shadows that seemed to follow photographer, Christina, during an investigation. Taken with a high-end 35mm camera, her equipment was reviewed for a possible cause and no logical one was found. The theater was dark, the only source of light coming from her top mounted flash.
A great photo taken by photographer, Christina. Shot in Tombstone’s community cemetery, an interesting and most likely natural red mass appeared.
Undisclosed San Diego location: Photo taken by Maritza. A cool divining rods image. The center of the photo shows hands holding rods that extend toward the left. Note the tip reflections of light look like sparks of energy.
|All evidence images are presented as originally photographed. Insets presented to emphasize areas of interest may include color and brightness adjustments.
Tara House, Los Angeles, California: Photo taken by Dawn. The camera clicked-off this image by itself while walking up the stairs, so it’s been labeled a “self-portrait”. sdGH team members often experience electronic equipment performing oddly during investigations,
Star of India Maritime Museum, San Diego, California: Team founder, Maritza, casually took many photos during this investigation. Little did she know what she may have captured until reviewing this image — a spirit man looking back at her?
|The Montgomery house is Malibu Hills. A lot of spirit activity. Photo taken by Maritza|
Whaley House Museum, San Diego, California: This picture was taken by Maritza’s sister-in-law during an investigation in the Whaley House. Note the interesting spiral mass.
Star of India Maritime Museum, San Diego, California: Photo’s taken by Dawn. The team was sitting quietly when they heard disembodied footsteps walking down stairs behind the group. Photo taken by Dawn she turned around and snapped a picture, capturing this anomaly. Most “orbs” seen in photos are dust and moisture particles reflected by a camera’s flash. Moving, unusually shaped and self-illuminating anomalies demand a closer look, especially if backed up with additional phenomenon.
Lincoln Heights Prison, Lincoln Heights, California: Maritza felt the temperature drop and began shooting pictures. In this one, a white mist is forming on the left side.
Lincoln Heights Prison, Lincoln Heights, California: Maritza was busy shooting pictures while making her way down one of the hallways. This picture possibly captured two men in the window, holding on to its bars.
|Coined in the early 1970s by researcher Ernst Senkowski, the term Instrumental Trans-Communication (commonly known as ITC) is spirit contact or communication made through the use of stock or modified electronic devices. Equipment such as the common digital voice recorder when Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) captures are discovered is technically ITC.|
With the current surge in the popularity of paranormal subjects, several talented paranormal community technicians have designed, built and marketed experimental ITC devices to fellow investigators worldwide. Below are examples of captures made with several.
Special Thanks, to Bill Chappell from Digital Dowsing for the Ovilus and the results it has produced!
Solid Mass Anomaly: Star of India Maritime Museum, San Diego, California
While heading a vigil at the stern on the mid deck portion of the Star of India Maritime Museum, lead investigator and intuitive, Maritza, senses the spirit of young sailor who once worked the Star. She asks him to make his presence known by touching a support pole that stands in front of the team, hoping to record a heat signature.
What is witnessed is curious. At the 34-second mark, a solid mass quickly approaches the pole, crosses over a portion [ possibly ‘touching’ it ], and pulls back just as fast. Based on its color, it can only be assumed it was very cold.
This anomaly is not a shadow. Due to a thermal camera’s principle of operation, shadows are not visually recorded as with traditional cameras — only temperature masses are. What make this evidence especially intriguing is its occurrence after its specific request. The team attempted to duplicate the anomaly in every way possible.

Tour – Aug 30, 2010 – Ovilus: Lillian Whaley Here
During an EVP session of the Whaley House Museum in the master bedroom, Lillian Whaley announces herself. We love it when the Whaley’s show up. She says, “Lillian Whaley Here”!
Team Investigation – November 19, 2011 – Theatre – EVP: The turkey bird (Mr. Whaley)
Once a month our group, The San Diego Ghost Hunters, donate our time to the Whaley House giving a night time ghost investigation tour. Groups can be anywhere from 12 to 25 people depending on the month. This EVP was captured during the November 19th 2011 Ghost Tour at the Whaley House Museum in Old Town, San Diego, CA. Investigator Colleen asks Mr. Whaley what the favorite part of his Thanksgiving Dinner is? While you can hear some of the tour guests talking in the background and also a female tour guests talking during the EVP, if you listen closely you will hear Mr. Whaley’s answer, “the turkey birds”. We repeat it 3 times so you can hear it.
Team Investigation – Jan 16, 2012 – Master Bedroom – Ovilus: Male, Whaley, Whaley, Tophat, Couch, Leave, Whaley
During this investigation the team heads up to the master bedroom in the Whaley House to hold an Ovilus session. The Whaley’s feel very comfortable communicating with us in the master bedroom. During this session, Mr. Whaley comes through. He will often identify himself as TopHat as well. Mr. Whaley loves his tophat. His responses “Male, Whaley, Whaley, Tophat, Couch, Leave, Whaley”. Whenever Mr. Whaley has had enough of his guests he will ask them and US to leave or set off the fire alarm if we don’t comply. Sounds like he was ready for us to leave and retire on the couch.
Ghost Tour – July 2013 – EVP: Did you say whiskey (Yankee Jim)
This EVP was captured at the Whaley House Museum in Old Town, during one of our Ghost Tours. One of our tour guests, Bob W, was using the divining rods sitting in a chair in front of the barrel, connecting with Yankee Jim Robinson, the man who was hung for stealing a row boat, on the property before the house was built. Mr. Whaley witnessed the hanging. When the session was over, I conducted an EVP session with Bob, standing in the spot on the photo where you see a dust orb near the bottom of the door. He asks Yankee Jim if he wants to go have a beer with him, and you can hear his wife say, “whiskey”. Bob then corrected himself and asked Yankee Jim if he wanted to go have a whiskey instead. Boy did that perk ole Yankee Jim right up. Yankee Jim is heard responding, “did you say Whiskey”. We repeat the EVP 3 times at the end for you.
Team Investigation – May 6, 2014 – Ovilus: Selfies
During the past two month our team the San Diego Ghost Hunters have done two team investigations at the Whaley House Museum in San Diego’s Old Town. Francis Whaley who prefers to be called Frank loves to play with our equipment. We have talked to him about doing a “Selfie” with us during these investigations. It is really a comical session when all is said and done. On this investigation 2 of our investigators are in the theatre using the Ovilus to communicate with Frank and trying to get him to pose for a “selfie” with them and as you can see in the picture, Frank did not appear, but what he did do was communicate that he knew what they were doing. His answer is clear and an intelligent response. Great fun!!
Team Investigation – May 6, 2014 – EVP: You cut the tip (Yankee Jim in the store)
We had a team investigation on 5-6-14. In the General Store we set up a RemPod for Yankee Jim. He likes to communicate through it. We were asking him if he wanted us to bring him whiskey, when Maritza says Cigars. Yankee Jim’s response, “you cut the tip”!!
Ghost Tour – July 25, 2014 – EVP: Doctor (girls room)
This EVP was captured during the Whaley House Ghost Tour on July 25th 2014. Violet was following around one of the tour guests and touching him so we decided to conduct an EVP session in the doorway of Violet’s bedroom. Immediately after Julian says hi to Violet, you hear an EVP of a younger male saying “Doctor”. When we played the clip back and heard the EVP, Julian’s girlfriend Emily is shocked, because she is currently finishing her nursing school and continuing on to become a doctor. Could this have been George or Francis Whaley asking Emily to help Violet?
Ghost Tour – October 18, 2014 – Ovilus: Ally – She
On October 18th 2014 we had a special Halloween Month Public Ghost Tour added to the schedule at the Whaley House Museum in San Diego’s Old Town. The Whaley’s and other spirits have gotten to know our team pretty well as we have worked in the house for years now. Ally is one of our lead investigators and on this night she invited 2 of her friends who brought their daughters with them, one of which was 12 years old. She decided to put them in one of the other investigators groups so that they could get the full experience of the ghost tour. The first stop for her friends was the theatre where the other lead investigator was using the Ovilus to connect with the spirits. The investigator asked the young girl to ask if Violet was in the room and the response from the Ovilus was “Ally” and then “She”. Amazing that the Whaley’s recognized that her guests were friends of hers.
Tour – Oct 18, 2014 – Ovilus: Silly Maritza
This is a great piece of evidence captured during one of our special Halloween Month Ghost Tours at the Whaley House Museum. As one of our investigators starts an Ovilus session with her group upstairs in the theatre, she starts to explain the Ovilus to the group. What came from the Ovilus next was amazing, it said “Silly Maritza”. Maritza is the founder of our group and her name is not in the dictionary of words in the Ovilus. So exciting to hear this!!
Tour – Feb 27, 2015 – Fire Alarms go off before the tour
This was the 2nd Whaley House Ghost Tour of 2015. As we were getting ready for our public ghost tour, we ventured upstairs to setup our equipment. While in the theatre, Maritza our founder saw an apparition of a woman in a black dress come from Violets room and disappear into the wall leading into the children’s room. Approximately 5 min later all the Alarms in the house go off. This is something that Mr. Whaley is known for doing when he doesn’t want any more people coming into the house. The tour hadn’t even started yet and all the tour guests waiting outside could hear all the alarms as well. The docents couldn’t turn the alarms off and the fire department ended up coming. Crazy start to an active evening! In this video you hear the alarms and both Maritza the founder and Alley one of our lead investigators sending a taunting message to the other lead investigator who is out of town on a work assignment.
William Heath Davis House Museum:
Team Investigation – Jan 9, 2012 – Kitchen – EVP: That One
his EVP was captured during our team investigation in the William Heath Davis House Museum in San Diego’s Downtown Gaslamp Quarter. We always bring trigger objects especially cars. We were in the kitchen and pulled out several little trucks. Holding a green one, which one was the first one pulled out of the bag, we dig for the others and we ask the little boy if he wants to play with the green one or the…..the spirit answers “that one” as we pull a blue one out of the bag. Gotta Love trigger objects. We repeat the EVP 3 times.
Team Investigation – Jan 9, 2012 –
Tour – Feb 23, 2012 – EVP: Count, they’re coming, they’re coming (in the hall)
We donate our time once a month giving public Paranormal Investigation Tours at the William Heath Davis House in San Diego’s Downtown Gaslamp Quarter. This is the most haunted house in downtown San Diego. We always set up our equipment prior to the tour and make it a point to tell our spirit friends that it is Tour night and to have fun with the guests. They can touch them gently, talk to them out load, move something. Whatever they want, just have fun. The spirits already knew in advance that it was tour night as they are ready. You can hear two investigators talking about the camera not working the minute they enter the house and the spirits say, “Count, they’re coming, they’re coming”. So cool!! If you are interested in taking one of our paranormal investigation tours you can visit the following link to purchase tickets. All dollar revenue goes back into the house for renovations and upkeep. www.gaslampquarter.org
Private Tour- Childrens Author – Kelly Milner Halls – EVP: Mmm I saw all them (kitchen)
The San Diego Ghost Hunters donate their time once a month giving private and public Paranormal Ghost Tours at the William Heath Davis House Museum in the San Diego’s Historical Gaslamp District downtown. On this night, Children’s Author, Kelly Milner Halls joins us. She is completing a children’s book on ghosts and will include her night with us here in the William Heath. There are many spirits of children who still linger in this beautiful home and we have enjoyed our interaction with them. Using toys as trigger objects have helped us receive some of our best evidence to date. In this particular clip, a small boy believed to be around the age of 3 to 4 years old, clearly let’s us know that he has seen all the pictures in the book seen in the photo. His speech pattern is that of a 3 or 4 year old as you will hear for yourselves. He says, “mmm I saw all dem”, instead of “mmm I saw all them”!
Team Investigation – Jan 12, 2013 – Children’s Room – EVP: Help (Mrs. Mountain)
We have been investigating the William Heath Davis House in San Diego’s Downtown Gaslamp Quarter for over 3 years now. There have been many residents in the house. One family was the Mountains. Mrs. Mountain is said to have had a very sick child you may have died in the house. In the children’s room we often hear a woman moaning as if she is crying. On this night in particular we heard a woman moaning again in the room. We ask if this was Mrs. Mountain and a woman who we believe to be Mrs. Mountain says “Help” in a very distressed way.
Tour – 2-23-2013 – w/Uncle Creepy Dread Central – ENP: Cat Meow
On 2-23-2013 Dread Central’s own co-founder, Uncle Creepy joined us on our public paranormal investigation tour at the William Heath Davis House. We donate our time once a month giving public paranormal investigation tours at the house to help raise money for renovations and upkeep of the house. Uncle Creepy had a feline friend who had recently passed. On this night the cat was all over the house, meowing out loud. Tour guests were stunned. They would hear a cat meow right next to them and look down at their feet, but nothing was there. They also felt the cat brushing up against their legs. This happened multiple times during the tour so it wasn’t any surprise to us when we also captured the cat meowing as an ENP too.
Tour – 2/23/2013 – Uncle Creepy Dread Central – Dis-embodied – Cat Meows (Upstairs hallway)
Public Paranormal Investigation Tour. Uncle Creepy from Dread Central joins us on the investigation. His recently deceased feline friend makes the night very exciting for all of our tour guests. Meowing out loud all night and rubbing up against everyone. In this video we are talking to the spy in the attic and the cat is there with us.
Team Investigation – Aug 24, 2013 – EVP: Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea (In the kitchen)
On 8-24-13, we investigated the William Heath Davis House Museum in San Diego’s downtown Gaslamp District. This house is a gem for haunted activity of residents from the past. We started investigating the house in August of 2011 to gather evidence of the spirits, for the purpose of donating our time to the house, giving Paranormal Investigation Tours once a month, to help raise money for the upkeep and renovations of this amazing house. We have become very familiar with the spirits of the house. In the kitchen is a man named Lewis, who watches over the children. Why the children hang out in the kitchen is still a mystery to us. One of our investigators has seen the spirit of Lewis, who wears clothing that seems to resemble a man of the cloth. On this particular night, we were testing out new equipment. While the other two investigators were setting up the DVR system and cameras, one investigator stayed in the kitchen, where we use trigger objects for the children. Trying out our new Rem Pod, a male spirit is only too excited to test it out too. When the investigator tells the spirits we have a new “thing” and the lights will light up if they touch it, she asks, “can you do that”, the spirit anxiously answers, “yea yea yea yea yea”. The best part…..this was a disembodied voice and the investigator heard it out loud.
Team Investigation – Jan 16, 2014 – Rick Hollywood GH Clip – Ovilus – Hallway by door
On January 16th 2012 we invited Rick from the Hollywood Ghost Hunters on a private investigation of the William Heath Davis House Museum. Before his arrival we had a conversation with the spirits in the house about their interaction with Rick. We encouraged them to touch him, talk to him, touch him and even push him. They did not disappoint. At one point during the investigation, the spirits pushed on Rick’s back as he was descending down the staircase. Approximately 5 min after he left, you could hear someone talking while we were sitting by the front door in the hallway conducting an EVP sesion. Suddenly we realized it was coming from the cell phone of the founder of our group Maritza. Her telephone dialed Rick and the telephone was no where near her. CRAZY…….. After Maritza spoke to Rick and told him she did not call him, we continue to conduct the Ovilus session. Wait til you hear this……………….
Tour – April 26, 2014 – EVP: Six (In the kitchen a child responds)
Once a month we conduct public paranormal investigation tours to help raise money for renovations and upkeep of the William Heath Davis House Museum. On the April 26, 2014 tour, one of the groups was conducting and EVP in the kitchen, which is a hotspot for the children. We always bring toys as trigger objects. During this EVP session one of the guests asks, “how old are you?” and the response is clear “Six”. You can even hear the tones in the response is that of a child. The volume is enhanced for clarity.
Private Tour w/ Whaley Docents – May 16, 2014 – ENP: Heartbeat or EKG Machine
During a private investigation at the William Heath Davis House in San Diego’s Downtown Historical Gaslamp Quarter, we capture an amazing ENP that sounds like a heartbeat or an EKG Machine. The house was once used as a hospital for almost 10 years. During this session we are using the Ovilus in George’s room and after the ENP you hear the Ovilus say “ghost”. Very interesting piece of evidence and the first of its kind in this house.
Tour – 2/28/2015 – Ovilus: Ghost
Ovilus session during Feb 28th 2015 Public Paranormal Ghost Tour at the William Heath Davis House in the Historical Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego. Lead Investigator is talking about Alonzo E Horton who brought the house in from around the horn. A tour guest asks why they stay in the house and Mr Horton answers “Ghosts”.
Tour – 2/28/2015 – EVP: Name Jack
Public Paranormal Ghost Tour at the William Heath Davis House in San Diego on 2/28/15. Lead investigator Maritza leads an EVP session in the kitchen where many of the spirits of children in the house like to hang out. Maritza talks about one of the children named Jack and he confirms that it is indeed him by responding, “name Jack”. This is an amazing capture and she also heard him say it out loud as you will hear in the clip. Class A EVP.
Tour – 3/2/2015 – Ovilus: George – Quiet
sdGH donates their time once a month giving Paranormal Ghost Tours in the very haunted William Heath Davis House Museum. George Deyo lived in the house from the early 1900’s until he died in 1977. George is very active in the house and loves to use the Ovilus to communicate. During this tour Maritza is talking about George and he announces himself and says “George” and then she starts telling the tour guests about the hidden room behind the wall in his rooms he says, “quiet”. Comical!!
Buena Vista Adobe – Vista, CA
Buena Vista Adobe – Team Investigation – June 10, 2011 – EVP: Vanilla (original bedroom)
During a team investigation at an undisclosed location in a Historical Adobe, we visit the children’s room. Typically when we investigate a room with children, we will ask questions like “Do you like Vanilla or Chocolate?”. We do this so that we can connect with the mind of a child. This is one of the best Class A EVP’s we have captured to date. The answer is undeniable
100 Yr Old Pasadena Home – Private Team Investigation
Team Investigation – June 2, 2012 – Ovilus: Fart session
We were on a team investigation in Pasadena at a 100 Yr Old Craftsman home. The has was reported to have a ton of paranormal activity. The owners aunt died in the house. The owners sister who lived with her had a son who’s best friend used to stay over all the time. The friend died of a drug overdose and activity in the bedroom where he used to stay started having a ton of activity. The blinds would open up right in front of the owner and her sister. They would come home and find all of the hangers standing straight up in the air inside the closet. During our investigation we all sat in this bedroom and right after one of our investigators was changing the batteries in the Ovilus, she turned it on and immediately an ENP of a fart sound came right through followed by a grunt as if he were pushing the gas out. It was hysterical. We laughed and it did it again, then the Ovilus said “better”, that was comical, did he now feel better after relieving himself? Then the owners sister tells us her nickname is “Pooper” and you hear 2 more farts following her comment. Then the Ovilus says “Nick, Learning and Free”. Truly an amazing session, it was so funny.
Undisclosed Arizona Location
July 15, 2011 – Undisclosed Arizona Location – EVP: Won’t you marry this, are you here in the dark
San Diego Ghost Hunters:This EVP was captured during a private investigation on July 15 2011. It was around 112 degrees outside. Two team members were standing on this back porch, with no access to this wonderful historical house. Little did we know what we captured on one digital recorder. A class A EVP of a woman singing, “won’t you marry this, are you here in the dark”. You can clearly hear her lisp when she says the word “this” and emphasis on the “k” when she says the word “dark”. This house sits in the desert. No outside speaker systems, no music playing anywhere, no one around but us two. We repeat the EVP 3 times at the end with enhanced volume. Finding this evidence was like unwrapping a Christmas gift.
Camarillo State Mental Hospital – Scary Dairy
Team investigation – Aug 21, 2010 – Scary Dairy – Ghost Box: Maritza
During an investigation of the Camarillo State Mental Hospital’s Scary Dairy in Aug of 2010, we use the Ghost Box. What is interesting is we captured several EVP’s of spirits saying Maritza’s name. During the Ghost Box session, a woman sings her name. It was incredible. We repeat the answer “Maritza” 3 times.
Bird Cage Theatre – Tombstone, AZ
Bird Cage Theatre – Tombstone, AZ – Team – May 3, 2013 – EVP: George
May 3rd of 2013 the team investigated the Birdcage Theatre in Tombstone, AZ along with two additional investigators from Arizona. The minute we stepped in the theatre, one of our investigators, records the date and location on her digital recorder. Almost immediately you can hear one of the “Birdcage Girls” calling out for a man named “George”. She also seems to have an accent. We repeat the EVP 3 times and enhance the volume.
Bird Cage Theatre – Tombstone, AZ – Team – May 3, 2013 – EVP: I’ve got an erection
During a team investigation of the Birdcage Theatre in Tombstone AZ, one of our lead investigators ask the male patrons if they like their ladies skinny or a little plump? The answer, “I’ve got an erection”. It sounds like the voice of a young male around the age of 18.
April 14, 2011 – ENP: Jackie Screams – By the pool – private investigation
We were invited to do an investigation and seance’ on the Queen Mary with author and Archeologist Rob Wlordarski and guests on April 14th 2011. At the end of the night we moved to the pool area. The guests that were with us that night have connected with Jackie, the spirit of a little girl many times in the pool area. As it got later most of the guests left and our team plus Bob Davis and Gerry Reynolds stayed behind and continued an EVP session in the Dressing Room/Shower Room area. We were shocked to hear the scream of a little girl out loud. Bob and Gerry both recognized this to be the scream of Jackie. It was a very exciting night and we were fortunate enough to capture the scream on our recorders. The s-cream is repeated so that you can hear it better.
UFO’s in Anza Borrego –March 11, 2010
